The theme of the national dialogues in autumn 2023 is “together and alone”. The dialogues will discuss the experiences gained from the meetings, the significance of communities and their future.
What is the significance of communities and encounters today? Who can easily find a place in our society, who, in turn, will be left alone?
The ties of Finnish society are undergoing a transformation. The population is ageing and fewer children are born than before. Small towns are losing their residents, large cities are growing. New people move to Finland from different parts of the world and residential areas become multicultural. Some employees work more from home. More and more encounters between people take place digitally. All this has an impact on how we live together.
We invite you to participate in national dialogues to organise a discussion on the topic together and alone.
The aim is to better understand which communities and encounters are relevant to you, your loved ones and different groups and organisations.
National dialogues provide a space to stop and discuss matters together with others and to discuss them constructively.
We hope that different people and communities from different parts of Finland will participate in the national dialogues. This will increase our understanding of topical social phenomena, challenges and opportunities across Finland and across different groups of people. Organising the discussion will also benefit the organiser’s own activities.
A summary of the dialogues will be drawn up and published for open use by everyone. It is also submitted for use in public administration and decision-making.

Participation is easy and does not require major inputs from the dialogue organiser. The most important thing is the desire to participate in Finland’s first National Dialogue.
Combine living in uncertainty with a topic important to you, such as: “What does living in uncertainty mean for people living in royalties/Kuopio/Espoo?”, “What does living in uncertainty mean for our class/work community/early education centre for children/hobbies/older people?”
Registration as a dialogue organiser using this form.
Additional instructions for conducting the dialogue will be published by 20.2.2023.
We will compile a list of the dialogues to be held in different parts of the country at the end of this page.
If you want to just participate in the dialgoue instead of organising a discussion yourself, you can check the list to find a suitable dialogue for yourself.
The aim is to have a large number of dialogues organised by different actors in different parts of Finland, where people can engage in diverse discussions about living in uncertainty, hear each other’s views and possibly learn something new about themselves and others.
The discussion can be held in one and a half hours, two or three hours, either face-to-face or remotely.
Welcome, join us!
