Organise a Sustainable Homeland dialogue

How can we simultaneously ensure care for the elderly and job opportunities for young people? Will our public services continue to function well? How can we maintain security and peace in a world of prevailing conflicts? Will we succeed in adapting to climate change and halting biodiversity loss?

The autumn National dialogue days are Thursday 22nd of October and Tuesday 24th of November. You can also organise dialogues on any other day as long as it is held before the end of November.

Our society is on the cusp of major changes. In particular, changes in our population, economy, national security and natural environment require us to think and act in new ways. Amidst these numerous changes, many people living in Finland are wondering which direction our country is heading in.

How to get involved?

Participation is easy and does not require a major input from the discussion organiser. The most important thing is the desire to join.

  1. Link the theme to a target group or topic that is important to you, for example: “Sustainable homeland in Vantaa / Lapland / our village / our school”
  2. Register as a discussion organiser  by the 21st of October via this form.

A summary of the discussions will be drawn up and published for open use. It will also be submitted for use in public administration and decision-making.

The aim is to achieve a large number of dialogues organised by different actors in different parts of Finland, where people living in Finland can engage in diverse discussions, hear each other’s views, delimit boundaries between different views, understand something new, share observations and build mutual trust together.

The discussion can be held for 1,5 or 2 or 3 hours, either face-to-face or remotely.

We provide discussion organisers with a comprehensive materials package and free training sessions, making it easy to organise a dialogue.

The dialogue organiser commits to:

  • Defining a more specific topic and pre-register as the dialogue organiser by the 21st of October using this form
  • Reserving a venue or creating a link for the virtual meeting
  • Inviting the participants
  • Facilitating the dialogue
  • Reserving a person to act as the note-taker for the dialogue
  • Submitting as accurate a record of the dialogue as possible using this form immediately after the dialogue.

You can view the discussions that have already been registered here.

If you would like to participate as a discussion participant rather than organise one, choose a suitable open discussion at the bottom of the above page and register directly with the discussion organiser.

Welcome aboard! You’re needed!

The dialogues are coordinated by DialogiAkatemia, Opintokeskus Sivis and the Ministry of Finance.
